About the Artist
I am a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist. After a 20-year career in graphic design in Boston, I returned to art school and received a B.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. Since 1999, I have been working in Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood in a vibrant artist cooperative building. My work, including site-specific commissions, can be found in private collections.
For several years I have been teaching workshops in and around Boston at the Fort Point Studio School, the New Art Center in Newton and DeCordova Museum in Lincoln. I also teach one-day workshops for all levels and Art Retreats for groups of non-artists in my large open studio in Boston.
About the Work
I have a profound love of light and color and I am drawn to places with open landscapes. I relate to the large vistas and the unique small details that unfold while hiking trails, walking beaches and wandering through canyons. My palette is inspired by the different landscapes on my journeys, communicating a range of sensory responses to the natural environment.
Following ideas intuitively, I am interested in the relationship of colors, shapes and textures as they come together to create something new. By incorporating works from various media – printmaking, collage, encaustic and painting – the juxtapositions form limitless possibilities. The work strives for simplicity and balance inspired by the patterns and shapes found in nature that is created in the process of working.
I am also involved in several on-going collaborative projects with groups of artists working within a theme to create unique books and collections.
Process
In my work, the mediums overlap and converge on canvas, paper and wood panels. Paintings begin with color – color that is evocative of places and moments. During the creative process encaustic and collage elements often merge with the paint to create images rich in color and layers.
The monoprints (one of a kind relief prints) are created with polystyrene plates and water-soluble inks. These plates are printed and overprinted by hand playing with transparency and layering creating unique prints.
Price list for original fine art prints, paintings, and mixed media work is available on request. Generally, prices range from $300 to $3000 depending on size and complexity.
